journey into beginning metalsmithing
I am a self-taught metalsmith in the southern United States. A pacific northwestern transplant, I moved to the South when I entered a graduate program in Religious Studies. My interest in creating jewelry began after I graduated from my religion program. With no real training to enter a particular field, I turned to the challenge of metal work to keep my spirits high. I began to use other parts of my brain, and I love the creative process of creating jewelry. I am putting the finishing touches on my studio, including shelving, organizing, getting my bench set up and stations for my torch, flex shaft, and pickle. I wanted a creative space for my work. I recently ditched the dysfunctional blinds we inherited with the house, and have painted the windows with clear acrylic gesso (for now). The yellow paint was "freecycled," and I love it. I feel creative in this room, which is how I wanted to feel in my studio. |
